What is School Council?

Cedarbrae Public School Council is a group comprised of parents, school staff and community members that are committed to serving the Cedarbrae School Community. We meet monthly to discuss current issues related to the school, plan special family activities, and support the teachers and school staff through fundraising for special initiatives such as new school equipment, family fun nights, and special school events.

All parents are encouraged to come out and attend a meeting.  This is one of the best ways to stay connected with the school and to be engaged in your child’s education.

Parental support drives the Cedarbrae School Council and parents are encouraged to attend as many or as few meetings as they can manage.  Come by and check it out, we look forward to meeting you soon!

What does School Council do?

The school council is made up of an elected committee of parents, staff representatives, the principal, and a general membership which includes parents of children attending the school. The school council advises the principal and the School Board on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school safety, after school activities, and more.

Fundraising

Participating in local school fundraising activities can be a fun and valuable experience for students. In addition to raising money, fundraising is a creative and collaborative effort of parents, students, teachers and the school community.

Fundraising does not support basic education requirements but rather it enhances programs and supports school initiatives or other external causes.

The Cedarbrae School Council works with the teachers, administration, and school community to develop fundraising goals throughout the school year. These goals can consist of several projects including updated equipment for the library, new home reading books, technology enhancements, and upgrades to the playground.

How can I get involved?

There are many ways for you to get involved with the Cedarbrae School Council. First, feel free to stop by for our monthly meeting to come and meet us, and learn more about what we do. If you aren’t able to attend, check out the minutes of our meetings on the bulletin board right across from the school office. We often have events, fundraisers or other times when we need volunteers for only a specific time. If you are willing to help, please reach out to the school office and let us know. We will also publish these needs when they arise so make sure to listen and watch for the voice and email announcements from the school for more information.
