December 19th, 2019
With the holidays upon us and 2019 drawing to a close, it’s a great time to look back at another busy year. I’m immensely proud of the work that is being done to improve the opportunities for all the students in the Waterloo Region District School Board.
It is not always easy to quantify the good work that is done, but this year with the announcement of our increased graduation rates, we have a good indication that the work we committed to with our strategic plan is paying off.
This achievement is a credit to our teams who are constantly innovating to make sure that year after year we get better because we know we are entrusted with the most valuable of human resources: children.
We are responsible for making sure almost 65,000 students get to school, are safe and cared for during school hours, and make it back to their families and caregivers. They are learning life lessons – building the necessary skills to set them up for success on their chosen pathway to graduation and beyond. This is an awesome responsibility and each and every one of us plays a part in this undertaking.
The foundation of our board is to create opportunities for students from all walks of life. We are dedicated to advancing equity, inclusion and human rights from the classroom to the boardroom. These opportunities would not happen without the contribution of all stakeholders.
Enjoy the upcoming break with your friends and loved ones. I could not be more excited about what we’ll accomplish together next year.
Sincerely,
John Bryant
Director of Education
