Trees throughout our region are showing off their autumn colours, and what better way to celebrate the fall season than a little leaf-learning!

From now until Friday, October 30, our Outdoor Education department invites all WRDSB students and their families to participate in Monster Trees, a hunt for Waterloo region’s largest trees. This free, fun and easy challenge encourages our students to explore the nature around them and find the largest trees of several different species, including maples, oaks and pines.

Students will need to identify a species of tree, measure its circumference, and submit their findings. Not sure how to measure a tree’s circumference? Watch Sean, one of our outdoor education educators, demonstrate how to do it and what you will need in their latest video.

Students are also encouraged to submit data on trees in their schoolyards. Even if these schoolyard trees are not Monster Tree contenders, the data will help determine where future tree-planting should occur.

We look forward to revealing the largest trees found around our region at a livestream finale event on October 30th.

WHEN: Friday, October 30th
TIME: 10:30 a.m.
